Hello all! It's been a while and I've had time to think about my project. Yet I am no closer as I was before. I'm having a lot of trouble coming up with an idea that hits passion, challenge, and impact, but isn't too demanding on top of the rest of my other responsibilities going on this year. I am extremely passionate about dance, but I feel that it may be too much for me to deal with, unless I do something similar to what another senior did last year (a.k.a Erin P). I might start a YouTube channel and do something about make up since that's also something I enjoy as well. I've only recently been getting into make up, learning how to do different looks and experimenting. I genuinely don't know what to do about my project because the only thing I truly truly want to do is dance. The only idea I can come up with that I'd be really interested in doing is making a dance about mental health and expressing my feelings/experiences through a dance and then performing it. I strongly believe in dance therapy and believe in telling a story/expressing myself through a dance; showing the pain and things that I've been through so I can come to terms with it and finally let things go. I seriously don't know what to do about this and I've got a LOT of other things on my plate this year, so I need to figure this out and soon.

This week, Sage Creek had our second annual Genius Project Symposium; however, I did not attend. I was busy with rehearsal and had an abundance of homework that I needed to make up. Fortunately, I watch some of the speeches and was given some insight from peers who had attended. The projects and the amount of professionalism was astonishing. I could only dream of accomplishing as much as these students. I don’t feel very confident in finding a project that’s as big or amazing as theirs, but I want to do something that will make me feel accomplished and satisfied, regardless of how small or how large. I want to do something for myself that will ultimately impact others. I’m still figuring those logistics out, however.
To help us lost high schoolers in the world of the Genius Project, our teachers set up a 'game' called "Speed Dating!" We went around, talking to other students and some other staff members about how we could turn our vague topic into a top-notch project! Some ideas I had gotten for dance included: dance classes, dancing for a cause, YouTube tutorials, and a dance show/performance. I like the YouTube idea; however, the length of time you spend planning, videotaping, and editing a video, seems like a million years. I also like "Dancing for a Cause" and possibly raising money for something, I just don't know where I would start or how. I could possibly combine the YouTube and dance performance idea. I could perform or improvise pieces in public places, film them, and put them on YouTube. I could also try and create a dance for a cause. Like an homage to Veterans, those struggling with cancer or mental illness, etc. I'm not quite there, but I'm getting closer to getting started on this project and I'm excited!
Starting the Genius Project seems a little daunting, but it has to start somewhere right? My life currently revolves around dance. It is the one thing on the planet that I could do for hours on end. Not only is it great exercise, but I can set goals for myself to become a better dancer and have fun at the same time. I have been trying to think about how I could possibly include dance into my Genius Project. While I want to something for the community, I want to challenge myself and progress as a dancer. One idea I have considered is starting a YouTube channel and doing tutorials or posting videos of self-choreographed dances. I am not sure how qualified I am to teach dance, but I am quite confident in teaching choreography. I feel like that making my Genius Project about dance will make it seem less like a homework assignment and more like something I'll look forward to doing.
